History

It is located on the line first opened by the Ambergate, Nottingham, Boston and Eastern Junction Railway in 1850 and taken over by the Great Northern Railway[1]

The station itself was opened by the Great Northern Railway in 1857. The station buildings were designed by Thomas Chambers Hine.

It became part of the London and North Eastern Railway during the Grouping of 1923. The station then passed on to the Eastern Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948.

When Sectorisation was introduced in the 1980s, the station was served by Regional Railways until the Privatisation of British Railways.

Current Services

There is only a limited service to the station, with most trains timed for Nottingham commuters i.e. early morning into Nottingham and returning late afternoon evening. There are two trains in each direction on a Sunday.

There is one daily service from Norwich to Liverpool Lime Street via Manchester, also calling at Radcliffe-on-Trent, Bingham and Netherton.
